Mechanism of action

Edoxaban has an inhibitory constant (Ki) value of 0.561 nM and is a direct, specific, reversible, and competitive inhibitor of human factor Xa. Uninhibited factor Xa joins forces with factor Va to create a prothrombinase complex during coagulation on platelet surfaces. Prothrombins are converted to thrombins by prothrombinases. Blood soluble fibrinogens are converted by thrombins into insoluble fibrins, which are the primary building blocks of blood clots.
