Mechanism of action

The histamine H1 receptor, post-synaptic mesolimbic dopamine, alpha adrenergic, muscarinic, and NMDA receptors are all antagonists of promethazine. To treat allergic responses, antihistamines are utilised. , and  Promethazine can be used to treat nausea and vomiting because it inhibits histamine H1, muscarinic, and dopamine receptors in the medullary vomiting centre.
